How do I tell my husband that I know he's in debt?


We've been married for ten great years but the other day I found a bundle of final demand letters stuffed in the back of the wardrobe. When I looked at them I could see that they were addressed to my husband and there was quite a lot. While we don't have a great amount of money saved, we are not desperate but I don;t understand why he hasn't told me about all these bills. I'm not sure how I will tell him that I know or maybe I should just pay the bills without telling him?
